I joined forces with Matt Sax and Eric Rosen, creators of the one-man hip hop musical Clay, to write an epic tale of love, betrayal, and the quest for peace in a new musical that incorporates elements of hip hop, R & B, and opera. Set in the near future, Venice tells the story of two brothers who struggle to make sense of their war-torn city. Both haunted by the memory of their mother, one calls for peace, while the other sets out to see his brother's plans undone.
Venice was presented in 2010 as a joint production between The Kansas City Rep Theatre, and the Center Theater Group in Los Angeles, and received its New York premier at the Public Theater in the Spring of 2013. The cast recording, which I also co-produced, was released by Ghostlight Records in December 2014.
